Frigate

AI‑Powered Local NVR

Frigate is a complete and local network video recorder (NVR) designed for Home Assistant, featuring AI object detection using OpenCV and TensorFlow. The system uses multiprocessing to minimise resource usage and runs motion detection before triggering object detection. It communicates with Home Assistant over MQTT, records footage based on detected objects, and can re‑stream videos via RTSP.

In rural properties or large estates, internet bandwidth can be limited; Frigate keeps everything local, ensuring footage stays private and recordings aren’t dependent on the cloud. It can detect people, pets or vehicles and trigger automations, such as turning on floodlights or sending push notifications. Highlands Smart Homes installs Frigate servers on small computers like Raspberry Pi or mini‑PCs, pairs them with Reolink or Ubiquiti cameras and integrates the feeds into your Home Assistant dashboard. With our custom training, you can recognise your dog versus a fox in the paddock. We also set up long‑term storage and remote viewing. Secure your property with AI‑powered surveillance that respects your privacy.
